The Lamentations of a Mad Man

Welcome to the my random ramblings. I will try post something new at least three times a week.
If I don't it usually means I'm probably sticking it up to the man or lying half died in a gutter. Blah!

This is a quick biro sketch of a character idea that I am creating for a little project I’ve got going. It’s all a bit hush hush at the mo so keep it on the D.L.
A lot of people ask me why I draw a lot of my characters with big guns. To those people I usually say "EAT ME!"

Then thought about it... I guess as a kid growing up in the Solomon Islands I was exposed to a lot of American movies. We didn’t have regular T.V because they don't have any stations and in those days no Satellite coverage. If you were lucky enough to have T.V, you had to watch movie on video.

The first in my memory being films like Rambo. All the hero’s in those days carried massive guns that never seemed to run out of ammo. I guess that image was seared into my cranium as a little kid.
All in all, I’m not a gun nut or a violent person, I just like drawing people with giant guns :)

This is a quickie I did for a mate. I tried not to take the pen off the page for this one. It’s actually really fun and I suggest you try it. : D

This is a painting I did which currently resides at friends house.
When I painted it I think I was feeling very much like the character in the painting. I was feeling a bit sad, beaten and coming apart at the seams. The world was crushing my spirit, but after painting it I actually felt pretty good.

The moral of the story is that art is good for your soul.
I was listening to Credence Clearwater Revivals “fortunate son” when I sketched this. That song always makes me think of how lucky we are. A lot of people died on both sides of that war. Many of them at the prime of their lives. It makes me sad that that shit is still happening today.
The Middle east is the new Vietnam.

This is a painting I did when I got my first cheap watercolour paint set. It cost me $8. Its on an A3 size page and took about 15 minutes to do. I freestyled the whole thing and it kinda pisses me off that I have never been able to replicate it.
